Call for International Sign (IS) interpreters
Location: Kigali, Rwanda

The African Federation of Sign Language Interpreters (AFSLI) invites qualified International Sign (IS) interpreters to apply for interpretation roles during the upcoming AFSLI Conference to be held in Kigali, Rwanda.
This conference brings together sign language interpreters, Deaf professionals, researchers, and allies from across Africa and around the world. It is a key platform for sharing experiences, strengthening professional networks, and advancing the interpreting profession on the continent.
AFSLI is seeking a team of four (4) International Sign interpreters to support inclusive communication throughout the event.
Selected interpreters will:
- Provide high-quality interpretation between International Sign (IS) and spoken English
- Work in plenary and breakout sessions, workshops, and networking activities.
We are looking for interpreters who:
- Have proven fluency in International Sign (IS).
- Possess experience interpreting at international or regional conferences.
- Demonstrate strong teamwork, flexibility, and intercultural competence.
- Are available to travel to Rwanda and participate on-site for the full duration of the event.
Preference will be given to:
- IS Interpreters from Africa
- Experience working in African contexts.
- WASLI-WFD accredited or Pre-accredited IS Interpreters
Terms of Engagement
- Engagement period: 4 Days (22/03/2026: Preparation & 23 – 25/03/2026: Conference)
- Travel, accommodation and meals will be covered
Application Requirements
The Committee will welcome and consider Group proposals as well as individual proposals.
Interested interpreters should submit:
- A cover letter (maximum 1 page) outlining motivation and relevant experience.
- A current CV highlighting conference and interpreting experience.
- Contact details for two professional referees.
