Our Foundation

Our Mission

To promote a Pan-African organization where every sign language interpreter is educated within the context of Africa's Deaf community for effective and efficient service delivery and professional recognition.

Our Vision

To build an organization where the profession of sign language interpreting is fully recognized and respected across Africa.

Our History

The first AFSLI gathering was in Durban, South Africa (2011). Leaders emphasized unity, training, national associations, and Deaf/hearing interpreter empowerment. Africa was divided into 4 sub-regions for structure.

🌍 AFSLI: United for Inclusion

We are building bridges through sign language interpretation across Africa’s diverse cultures and communities.
